I’m Jon Carl.
THANKS FOR BEING Here.
I consider myself your average queer, liberative theologian and spiritual guide.
But what does that mean?
What is a liberative theologian?
Did I mean to say “liberation theologian”? No.
Am I a liberative theologian?
I would say “yes.”
A useful first question might be: “What is a theologian?”
Another useful question might be: “What do I mean by ‘liberative’?”
What is a spiritual guide?
I am certified in a discipline commonly known as “spiritual direction.”
I’m uncomfortable with that term.
So are most of my colleagues.
The first problem is: we don’t direct anything.
Not if we’re doing our job.
What do I mean by queer?
What does “queer” mean to you?
Yes… and no.
There are as many definitions of the erotic as there are people who hear the word. I, myself, work with several, overlapping (sometimes conflicting) understandings of the erotic every day.
